Okay, God has great plans for our lives and isn’t it crazy to watch Him work! Not to long ago, I was at a ceremony for my brother in laws accomplishments and it hit me - My parents raised two very different girls, but both are serving in ministry and both of us are wives of Pastors. Who would have thought! How’d we get here…
When I say very different daughters, I mean very different! My sis is three years older than me (I’m the baby) and she has always excelled at everything she does. Val Victorian of her class, full scholarship to college, degree in accounting… she got her first B in college. Well, for me, B’s and C’s were worth celebrating, I only lasted 6 months in college, and let’s be honest I was more into friends and boys than thinking about my future. We were close growing up and I can remember many occasions of her doing really nice things for me in high school but there were also times she was the one coming to find me because I was past my curfew. We were blessed to be raised in a Christian home with good morals and an amazing work ethic. Church on Sunday, parents who were very involved in youth group and youth trips, dinners together, and we both accepted Jesus at a young age.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
Two stories written by God for each of our lives. My sister would meet her know husband while both doing accounting at the time and God called them to a small town near by and orchestrated my brother in law to now Senior Pastor a great congregation. And my sister is the perfect helpmate for their God given ministry. Of course, I’d go for the complete opposite… The bad boy. I don’t promote being unequally yoked, but our God has turned our story into that of redemption! My husband went to church for an entire year and thought it was a complete waste of time but slowly God changed his heart and called him to Himself one day in my parents’ garage. We over planned our wedding (it was one to go down in the books of don’t do’s) and God would move us to a church where my husband would be mentored by some of the best and be called into youth ministry. Where he now shares Jesus with kids that he’s walked in their shoes of pain, alcoholism, and on a path of destruction.
It’s been a wild ride! Two ordinary sisters supporting ordinary men called by an extraordinary God into lives of a high calling. So, as you wonder, like I did (and sometimes still do) if God’s got a plan designed just for you. The answer is YES, and it may be completely different than what you have in mind but just perfect for you.
She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Proverbs 3:15
Trust in Him, trust in His word, and watch Him work. God can use our differences for His glory! And don’t forget to look back every once in awhile and reflect on just what kind of miracles He’s been up to in your life!
