I love the fresh start of a brand new year! I’m so excited to ring in 2019!! It feels like a new beginning to me, a fresh start, a clean slate, and limitless possibilities. I love to look back at this year and see the highs and lows, victories and celebrations. I know God was gracious to me and allowed me to really have a year of self-development and personal growth in 2018. Am I at the goals I projected for this year – Not even close BUT GOD! So, we are about to begin a new year… What should our new year’s resolutions look like when we set ‘em high and submit our ways to God?!?
Before we jump into new year’s resolutions for 2019, I mentioned briefly God’s never ending grace to me this year. I really can see Him at work in my life and I think it is so important to take time to thank God for all the blessings He’s poured out this year before I move into the new! Wow – He’s a good, good Father. I’ve been blessed beyond what I deserve and His grace and unconditional love have carried me during the struggles. I’ve got nothing but praise and thanksgiving for His work in me in 2018!! What about you? Take a second to praise Him (even in the storms) for His work in your life!
Okay… So, I don’t have a single hesitation making lofty goals for the new year! I mean I shoot for the stars and beyond (no small dreams for this girl)! What do I want to do in 2019? What are my goals? How can I continue to learn and grow? This new year will be even better when? How can I use my gifts for the lives of others? These are the questions I ponder, write my goals, and have been challenged to list actions steps for those that I make (this will be a new twist for me this year). I believe that these dreams and passions come from God. I pray for Him to fuel the desires He has for me and then I just go full throttle with setting goals WAY outside my comfort zone and that push me to think bigger than myself. DREAM FEARLESSLY!
Although, there can be a problem with these goals we set in the new year - They are all about what I can do! What I will do! How I’m going to do this or that! But I think we’ve got to be careful, to pair our resolutions with a few things…
PRAYER: Like I said, I pray for God to open the eyes of my heart to see what He has for me. I ask Him to fuel His desires in my heart and help guide me as I seek to glorify Him in the new year.
In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:6
OTHERS FOCUSED: Another thing that I look at as I set my goals for the new year is who do my goals bless? Is it just me? And I make adjustments if my goals don’t bless the lives of those God puts in my life. My desire is for my goals to shine bright for Jesus and encourage others in life and godliness.
Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8
KNOW HIM MORE: At least one of my goals must include a way to grow in my relationship with Him! I’m so excited to start January 1st a daily devotional with my hubs that was highly recommended by some of you! We just got the book in the mail yesterday – My Utmost For His Highest by Oswald Chambers.
So that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God. Colossians 1:10
GRACE: His grace is sufficient! Am I going to hit all of the goals that I set for the new year? I pray God will bless them abundantly but the reality is I’m not perfect and I will fall short of many. I believe it is okay if we don’t hit every goal we set in the new year! When we submit our ways to the Lord, His plans will guide and prevail.
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 2 Corinthians 12:9
So, as we turn the calendar to January 2019… I say glorify God in your new year’s resolutions. Pray, bless others, grow in your relationship with Him, trust with all your heart, work hard, and look for His blessings in the new year every day!! I’m going to do the same! Here’s to the best year yet my friends!!
