Sports! My parents had always dreamed of having their girls play sports. My sister and I tried just about every sport there was in school and concluded after each one they weren’t for us. It was either too much running, too competitive (and if you know me I don’t have a competitive bone in my body), or just not really our thing. I’m sure they were disappointed to say the least. The one thing we did stick with was cheerleading in high school (until a broken elbow ended my cheering days).
My sister has blessed our family with two fantastic kiddos. And I’m sure Meme and Papa are secretly praying and providing every kind of sports equipment imaginable to see if there’s a chance for sports with the grandkids. And so far, they’ve been blessed to watch soccer and basketball!
Kevin and I do enjoy watching football and basketball these days. We’ve got an NFL team themed home gym and we’ve purchased season tickets to both of these sports to faithfully root on our college team. It’s a fun hobby for us.
All of this got me thinking about these athletes that work day in and day out with this as their career. I tend to look at where they are now and forget the road it took to get them here. Not a single one of them decided one day I’m going to play in the NFL or NBA without hard work & dedication (blood, sweat, and tears). I’m sure each of their journeys called for grit & grind AND I’m sure each one would say it was all worth it!! I was just at a live NFL game last night and it was electric, exhilarating, intense, and so much fun! I would imagine that most of those players at some point thought to themselves, “Is this real life?” “I get to do this every day?”
In the stadium last night, I saw DREAM FEARLESSLY several times. They inspire me to aim high for big dreams. Then work with grit, grind, and most definitely God. He’s got great plans for us and I think to often we can give up way to soon (guilty). Friends, we live in a culture that wants everything now but I truly believe that God’s plans for us demands trust, praying, patience, seeking, growing, and working hard. He tells us in scripture – To persevere (Ephesians 6:18, Mark 4:17, Matthew 24:13) and to run with endurance (Hebrews 12:1). The passion He’s put in you and me isn’t by accident. Your own God given unique gifts are the only thing you need. We are being molded, perfected, and it’s not always going to be easy. So, just like the athletes let’s set our sights high, pray hard and long, and go after it until we reach our lofty goals. The bright lights, feelings of accomplishment, and rejoicing in God’s journey for our lives will be well worth it!
